SHAMED New York Governor Eliot Spitzer resigned last night amid claims he spent more than £40,000 on high-class hookers over TEN YEARS. The married dad — who made his name prosecuting prostitution rings — stood down after the FBI caught him hiring a £2,000-an-hour tart.
At a press conference yesterday with Silda, his wife of 20 years, at his side, 48-year-old Spitzer said: “I’m deeply sorry I did not live up to what was expected of me.
“I cannot allow for my private failings to disrupt the people’s work.” It was later claimed he was a regular customer at a top escort agency and had met call girls across the US. Spitzer — dubbed the Sheriff of Wall Street for tackling crime
and corruption — was first probed by the FBI over suspicious cash transfers from his bank accounts.
Dubbed ‘Client 9’, he was taped ordering a brunette named Kristen at a hotel near the White House in Washington DC the day before Valentine’s Day.
It is claimed he spent up to £40,000 on “dates” with tarts from the New Jersey-based Emperors Club VIP. He met them in Washington, Florida, and Dallas, Texas. Kristen was identified last night as stunning 22-year-old Ashley Alexandra Dupré.
She left a broken home on the Jersey Shore at 17 and came to New York City to work the nightclubs as a rhythm and blues singer. Instead she became high-class hooker Kristen.
On her MySpace page she tells how she has used drugs, “been broke and homeless”.

She goes on: “Learned what it was like to have everything and lose it, again and again.
“But I made it. I’m still here and I love who I am.”
On Monday, she made a brief appearance in court as a witness in the case against four people charged with operating Emperors Club VIP.
Ashley said she had slept very little over the past week due to the stress. She added: “I just don’t want to be thought of as a monster.”
Asked when she met Spitzer and how many times they had seen each other, Ashley refused to comment.
Yesterday a blonde called Sienna, 22, also said Spitzer paid her for sex in 2006 — when he was New York’s attorney general leading a crackdown on call girls.
Democrat Spitzer said yesterday that he would now “try outside politics to serve the common good”. His blind deputy David Paterson replaces him.
